Earlier this year we’ve introduced Whisky Live with a whole new flavour and look – Gin flavour. For the first time in many years, this year they’ve made their first appearance as Whisky & Gin Live Celebration at the Cape Town celebration, which was the first celebration of the year; followed by Pretoria, then Durban.
This new look offered independent gin makers a chance to put their own stamp on the market – adding to a younger focus; yet not forgetting the old whisky connoisseurs and lovers. The three celebration events had more open layout, more accessible and social areas, trendy food trucks, live performances from local artists while whisky and gin lovers enjoying themselves.
Acknowledging partnerships with, Scotsman Ice, Good Fellas, Norman GoodFellows, The Lookout V&A Waterfront, Menlyn Park Shopping Centre and Suncoast – The Globe.
Cape Town was the very first celebration in 2019 – which helped us to introduce the new look to the market. The wonderful celebration was a 3-night event held at The Lookout – V&A Waterfront from 2 – 4 My 2019.
With over 3400 guests over three nights we kept the vibe and mood going with local performances from Keanu Harker, Kay Kamteni and the Cape Garrison Artllery Pipes & Drums – while guests were sampling and learning about their gins and whiskies.
From 30, 31 May – 01 June we partnered with Menyln Shopping Centre – hosting the second 3-night celebration in PTA which was also a great success. Over 2500, dressed to impress guests – tasting over 30 whiskies and gins while enjoying live performances from Noeline De – Gee, Wendy Allen Twyford, Jono Johansen, Lisa Chris, Pretoria Highlanders; also enjoying lifestyle treats from Just Biltong, Mari’s Fudge and Honest Chocolate.
We also catered for cigar lovers and those who wanted to keep their hair neat and clean as That Cigar Girl and Movember was part of the lifestyle exhibitors.
The final leg of the Whisky & Gin Live Celebrations concluded in Durban – Partnering with Suncoast – The Globe; the 3-night celebration was on fire. From 13 – 15 June the venue was filled with over 3300 guests all came to celebrate. On stage there were live performances from The Voice SA star Keanu Harker and a pipe band – Durban Caledonian.
All these celebrations had a new market which was young and bold females – who are the new whisky sippers and gin lovers.
Event organiser Michell Kirby said, internationally women are featured as strong whisky purchasers. “Forbes reported on two ladies, Becky Paskin and Goergie Bell, who just ahead of International Women’s Day, launched their own awareness campaign of female whisky drinkers in the States and the movement is growing to include younger consumers”.
However, we are now moving and shifting focus as we will be hosting the Whisky & Spirits Live Celebration in Sandton from 6 – 8 November 2019.
